Walt Disney

 

Imagine having a dream of changing the world, and having that dream come true. Walt Disney said this quote when he opened Disneyland in July 18, 1955, “To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America ... with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” (www.wikipedia.org) Walter Elias Disney was born December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. He died in Burbank, California, December 15, 1966. Disney was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Walt Disney had a dream and wanted to share it with others, and this is why he is remembered even today.

 

Walt Disney started his career by making ads for newspapers, magazines, and movie theaters. This is where he met a cartoonist named Ubbe Iwerks. Together, they started a commercial company. Their business started out rough, so Disney left temporarily to earn money at Kansas City Film Ad Company, where he made commercials based on cutout animation. Next, Disney decided to open his own animation business. He hired a colleague, Fred Harman, to work as his first employee. Disney and Harman started their business at a local theater and they were “arguably the most popular “showman” in the Kansas City area at the time.”(www.wikipedia.org) David Low, the late British political cartoonist, called Disney "the most significant figure in graphic arts since Leonardo Da Vinci."(www.norskettnole.com)

 

Walt Disney is well known for many things, including his imagination, his resorts, his cartoons, and the joy that he spread around the world. Also, he was the first person to make animated films. While making these animated films, he created Mickey Mouse, who is still famous today. Walt Disney is also the founder of Disneyland, which officially opened July 18, 1955. Disney once said, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” (www.brainyquote.com) In Disneyland, there is a plaque when you first walk in that says, “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy"(www.brainyquote.com) Walt Disney created Disneyland and this plaque to show that when you enter Disneyland, you leave reality, and enter fantasy.

 

Walt Disney was very proud to see Disneyland grow, and couldn’t wait until the opening day. July 18, 1955 is the day that changed Walt Disney’s life forever. “Disneyland is the star, everything else is in the supporting role.”(www.brainyquote.com) Walt Disney is saying that Disneyland is the main part, and everyone who comes supports it. “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”(www.brainyquote.com) Walt Disney had a dream, and he is telling others, that if you have a dream, it can come true.

 

Walt Disney has impacted everyone’s life even today. More than 515 million people have visited Disneyland since it has opened. Walt Disney once said, “We did it Disneyland, in the knowledge that most of the people I talked to thought it would be a financial disaster - closed and forgotten within the first year.”(www.brainyquote.com) Walt Disney said this thinking that Disneyland would be closed and forgotten about, within a year, and he is proud that it is still open and making people happy everyday. As you can see, many people come to Disneyland everyday to see the magnificent creations of Walt Disney.
