How To Make A Taco

Think about what you use, how you do it, and what materials and food it takes when you make a taco. When your making a taco, your going so fast it doesn’t seem like a whole lot of steps. But when you think about them and write the steps down step by step, there are many side affects and many tools you need while making a taco.

Warnings and hazards:
Be careful when using an oven, stove, or anything hot, there is a chance you could burn yourself. Using a knife and other utensils could be dangerous if not handled properly. The vegetable oil in the pan could burn you if it pops. Follow these rules, and your taco will be fabulous!

What you need:
  • 2 pots and pans to cook the food
  • 29 store bought taco shells
  • 2 packs of seasoning
  • 1 or 2 cans of beans
  • 2 pounds of ground beef (meat)
  • 1 block of cheddar cheese
  • 1 head of lettuce
  • 6 tomato s
  • 5 avocados
  • 1 can of salsa (mild & optional)
  • 32 plates
  • ⅓ cup of vegetable oil
  • Oven
  • 1 knife
  • Sink
  • 1 spatula
  • 7 little bowls (for toppings)
  • Stove
  • 2 cookie sheet (for taco shells)
  • 1 spoon
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 can opener (electric)

How to make the taco:
  • Turn the stove on to approximately medium heat.
  • Turn the oven on to _____ degrees.
  • Take the shells out of the box and put them onto the cookie sheet.
  • Open the oven and put the cookie sheet in the oven with the shells on it.
  • Take a large sauce pan for the beans, and put it on medium heat, while waiting for the pan to heat up, prepare to cook the meat by washing your hands.
  • Take the meat out of the wrapper, then take out a medium size pan and put vegetable oil into the pan, then put the meat in the pan, grab your spatula and flip and stir, but be careful because if you let the meat sit for to long it will begin to stick to the pan, so you have to stick the spatula under the meat and get it all on the spatula. Then toss and turn your meat rapidly, don’t forget to break the meat apart so you have little chunks not huge pieces of meat. When you cook the meat you have to put it in the pan, put vegetable oil in the pan, put the seasoning on the meat, and make sure it’s dark brown and not still raw/red. After cooking the meat wash your hands! It is very crucial to make sure to wash your hands after touching raw meat!
  • When cooking the beans, take a small/medium sauce pan and empty the can of beans into the pot. Cook on medium heat stirring the beans until hot and ready to eat.
  • Open the can of beans with the electric can opener, hook the can opener onto the top of the can, press down the top of the can opener and then it will automatically start turning and opening the can on its own, spoon the beans into the sauce pan that is sitting on the stove.
  • While cooking the meat and beans, get all of your toppings ready.
  • Get little bowls/containers to put your toppings in.
  • Toppings:
  • Cheese: shred the cheese with a grader, get a plate and set the grader on the plate, now take your block of cheese and take a corner of the cheese, bring to the top of the grader, apply pressure and drag the cheese the length of the grader, repeat as necessary.
  • Lettuce: wash and cut the lettuce, turn on the sink and hold the head of lettuce under the water for at least 10 seconds until it is thoroughly cleansed, then take a paper towel and set the head of lettuce on the paper towel, take a knife and slowly chop the lettuce against the grain, so it is thin and long, then cut those pieces in half or thirds so they are bite sized and shredded.
  • Tomato: take your tomato and hold it under the sink for at least 10 seconds until its washed and ready to dice, like the lettuce, take a paper towel and put the tomato on the paper towel, take your knife and dice it into little cubes so it fits neatly into your taco.
  • Avocado: take your knife and cut the avocado in half, take a spoon and stick it under the pit (the brown nut looking thing the the middle of the avocado) scoop the pit out of the center so you can cut the avocado, take your knife then cut your avocado into half inch. slices.
  • Salsa: get a little size bowl, pour the salsa almost to the top of the bowl and get a spoon to transfer the salsa to your taco.

Once you have all of your toppings, meat and beans ready, get your plate out and lets start putting your taco together.
  • Open the cabinet and take out a plate of your choice.
  • Take your taco shell off of the cookie sheet and set it onto your plate.
  • Take a wooden spoon and spoon your beans smoothly onto the inner side of your taco. (optional)
  • Take a spatula and scoop about 1 or 2 servings of meat onto your taco.

Now lets put the toppings on:
  • Cheese: take about 4 fingers and softly pick up a little bit of shredded cheese and set it on top of your meat.
  • Lettuce: take about 4 fingers and softly pick up a little bit of chopped lettuce and set it on top of your cheese.
  • Tomato: take about 4 fingers and softly pick up a little bit of your diced tomato and set it on top of your lettuce.
  • Avocado: find a fork and insert the tines into the avocado and lay it on top of your diced tomato.
  • Salsa: when you have completed all of your toppings, take a spoon and scoop as many spoon fulls of salsa as you would like onto your taco.

*Your toppings do not have to be in this order!*

Now that your taco is completely done, take a bite and enjoy! :)
