Overview

Read this chapter to learn about how a shoe works and what it is used for.

Shoes have been around for many, many years and will always be around. They prevent diseases from being spread and help to keep your feet in healthy condition. Sandals in early civilizations were very common. Also, there wasn’t a right or left shoe. They both looked the same. Now, shoes have accessories. Accessories include different color shoelaces and eyelets. Also some brands allow for you to customize your own shoe like Vans.

Parts of Shoe

Insole- A layer of material inside the shoe that adds comfort to the wearer

Heel- Part of the shoe that is in the back but on he bottom that adds height to the shoe

Tongue- Goes under the shoelaces and is connected to the throat line. It’s there to add comfort and keep from irritation happening to the foot from laces.

Quarter- A piece of fabric that usually is stiffer then the other and allows for more support of the foot.

Vamp- The fabric that cover the foot as far back as the quarter allows

Outsole- The part of fabric that is water resistant, grip, and durable

Welt- A strip of materials that joins the sole with upper

Toe cap- Can come in different materials but are used for extra protection from jamming feet

Eyelet- Is a hole in the shoe that the laces go through

How to tie a shoe

Step1- Hold one lace in each hand so that the laces are the same length on each side

Step2- Criss cross the left lace over the right one.

Step3- Take the under lace and put it through the hole Now the lace should be pretzel-ed.

Step4- Pull both ends of the shoelaces so that now there against the shoe all the way

Step5- Then make a loop with one shoelace

Step6- With the other shoelace end wrap it around the loops base and your thumb

Step7- Then take the shoelace and stick it through the hole your thumb is in

Step8- Now pull the shoelace so you should have two loops now that look like bunny ears

Step9- Now pull tight and your all done with tying your shoe.


Summary


As you can see tying a shoe is not the easiest thing to learn. But once you learn it will come easy and natural everyday.
