Bombing Of Japan Ford

August 6th, 1945 a U.S. B-29 bomber named Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb in the morning (8:15AM)(5:15AM American time) in the town of Hiroshima. The bomb detonated a couple thousand feet above the ground. About 130,000 people went missing, died, or were injured.

It blew up above and army field with training solders. This army field was an important military base. The cities population before the bombing was around 300,000. About 43,000 soldiers were at the base during the bombing. The birds literally flew in to flames while flying.

Little Boy, the bomb, was 9,700 pounds of uranium. Uranium is a dense, radioactive element. The explosion was equivalent to 15,000 tons of TNT (30,000,000 pounds of TNT).

After the explosion large firestorms burnt around the city and covered about 4.4 square miles. People died from radiation, the fires, and from dehydration and starvation.

August 9th, 1945 another U.S. B-29 bomber named Bock’s Car dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki at 11:00AM. The bomb exploded 1,650 feet above the ground. Once again Tibbet’s crew dropped the bomb.

It was dropped on the outside of Nagasaki and killed and injured 100,000 people the bomb would have done more damage if it hit the city directly.

Fat Man was made out of Plutonium and 40% bigger than Little Boy. The bomb was 21kilotons of TNT (42,000,000pounds of TNT).
